Hoodia FAQs
Q. What is Hoodia?
Hoodia Gordonii is a South African succulent which has similar features, but is unrelated to, the cactus family. The Hoodia plant is actually a member of the milkweed family and approximately 20 species of the plant exist.
Hoodia has been used by South African tribes like the San Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert for thousands of years. The plant is grown and cultivated commercially and in compliance with the laws of the South African government.
Q. How does Hoodia work?
Hoodia works by mimicking the same effects of glucose on brain cells after you’ve eaten a meal – it sends your brain signals, and the brain then tells your body that it’s full, even if it isn’t. In clinical studies, it was revealed that Hoodia Gordonii may contain a molecule which is 10,000 times stronger than the glucose found in our bodies!
Q. I heard that Hoodia was not commercially available and only owned by one company. Is this true or false?
It is absolutely false. Several years ago, when South African scientists discovered Hoodia’s ‘powerhouse’ molecule (which they named ‘P57’), they sold the rights to their research to a pharmaceutical company in Britain called Phytopharm.
Phytopharm then continued the research of the South African scientists by developing a Hoodia extract and beginning clinical trials. It wasn’t until 1998 that the well-known Pfizer corporation became interested in Hoodia’s powerful properties. Reportedly, the Pfizer corporation paid Phytopharm approximately 32 million dollars to acquire research rights. However, for whatever reason the purchase was never made, so Hoodia’s research rights were returned to Phytopharm, who continues to develop a Hoodia extract that can be sold commercially.
Q. Why is Hoodia so Expensive?
Hoodia medication is so expensive because the plant can take many years to grow to full maturity. As well, it is a rare plant. However, many farmers have since seen the potential of growing Hoodia commercially. Today, a number of Hoodia farms are in operation. The plant is grown and cultivated year round, which ensures uninterrupted access to the medication by consumers. All of our exporters are under license from the South African government to distribute Hoodia diet medication.
Q. Can you guarantee that Hoodia will suppress my appetite?
Although the research, reports and clinical trials are all positive and promising, we are unable to make any claims as to the effectiveness that Hoodia Gordonii diet medication will have on any individual. However, we can tell you that our pharmacy’s mission is to provide you with the best Hoodia products available on the market.
Q. What are Hoodia’s dosage instructions?

Q. Will I need a prescription to order from you?
